Mother-s love (1)

Friends have been nagging me to write down my amazing mother’s tips and sayings for years. I hope my blog followers will enjoy reading my story and hers.

Compromise or reality?

I have lost count over the past months where colleagues and friends have spoken about their life’s compromise and how do they re-address the balance?

We use such words too easily and often incorrectly we are often told how not to compromise ourselves too much but in reality life, or indeed certain elements, may indeed feel like we are compromised but life is about adjusting and acceptance too.

I would remind my followers today that the feeling of being compromised may be as a result of choices we have made either on our own or jointly. Often we make decisions based on information to hand at the time and/or to please others. Of course neither of these choices is completely wrong but in our aim to please we may feel we hand over too much control. Wanting to please others in itself is no bad thing but remember we are important too, so is our own happiness and moreover our peace of mind.

Just living day by day of course is always favourable and not allowing our fears to consume us is sound advice. However, at times even the best of us who on the surface are immune to stress feel vulnerable and not in control.

My message today is to relax, do things you enjoy to balance out the stress of life, be mindful and be kind to yourself and not hard on yourself.

To quote Billy Idol..the future’s so bright got to wear shades!

NLP Life Coaching

As I was saying recently to somebody who had taken the positive step to talk to a life coach it takes courage to recognise that you need some assistance. Working with somebody outside of your immediate circle to discuss those issues that are troubling you and/or that you feel may hold you back from realising your potential is a step in the right direction.

Often we have barriers that we put up which prevent us from following our dreams and enjoying full relationships. NLP helps you to identify those barriers and the reasoning behind them but more importantly to break down those barriers to work in a more positive and confident way.

Through life’s experiences it is quite easy to become affeared and develop a negative mindset when those experiences are in the past and are really unrelated to your life today and the possibilities awaiting you tomorrow.

NLP also helps us to recognise that other people have weakensses too and in acknowledging these we can find ways to live and work in harmony.

To quote Mahatma Ghandi:

‘Happiness is anything done with harmony –only when our thoughts, actions and words are balanced and connected to each other can we achieve true harmony.’

Keeping healthy

We all know that we take our health for granted and push our bodies sometimes to the limit. If, however, you have had and survived serious illness your attitude towards the value of good health and one’s spiritual wellbeing changes…and for the better.

Modern day people never take recovery seriously and often rush back to work too soon, sometimes this is not just about the financial burdens we all face but that we are on the run from the emotional element of being ill and feeling vulnerable.

Today I have had an interesting chat with a family member and we exchanged honestly how we have both felt after coming through serious illness and agreed that people do need to feel grateful and take life a little easier.

Getting in touch with one’s spiritual self is really beneficial and often this can be enhanced by reading the great works of others who have completed a spiritual journey.

Relaxing with a book not only keeps us writers from starving…you are never alone when you are reading but you may find an inner peace depending what you read and escaping from our own life with a book for an hour or two is a mini-holiday.

Balancing our life with relaxation and exercise will keep both mind and body healthy.

I always joke when I have been studying that I am doing my mental exercise. Great!

Writing is therapeutic

Writing as we know can be extremely therapeutic even if nobody reads what you have written. In writing down your thoughts and emotions you are starting to let them go and you will feel lighter.

Over the years I have run writers groups and been amazed at the honesty as well as the talent apparent ‘non-writers’ have and how well they express their emotions when given the chance.

Poetry is often a fun way for some as they can keep their thoughts limited to a word count or pattern of their own choice. However, the emotion and personal message will come through strongly, even irony and comedy when applied can help us make sense of what previously may have been too painful to discuss.

Keeping a journal and/or writing a blog is a great way to have a rant and start collating material to reflect on at a later date. Additionally writing down happy thoughts and reasons to be grateful can help us keep a positive balance and be mindful on a regular basis.

Choices for women

Like many I have been appalled at some of the verbal abuse certain people in power have directed at women and/or the vulnerable. No names mentioned, but latest discussion on affecting the freedom of choice for women to have a termination of pregnancy for fear of ‘punishment’ is beyond belief.

Without getting into the reasoning behind specific religious beliefs and respecting those that maintain those beliefs there are many reasons why a woman should have the choice and be supported in that choice without shame. This ‘choice’ may be enforced following unwanted attention in the form of a sexual attack culminating in an unwanted pregnancy and/or for medical reasons or just personal circumstances.

In the same day we see women having to petition for the right not to be forced to wear high heels to work -again sheer madness. I am old enough to remember when girls were not allowed to wear trousers to work in the bank until the staff union stepped in.

In a fast growing world or progress it does seem unbelievable that we have to go backwards in terms of people being able to live their life the best they see fit the way they see fit.

Meanwhile we all run the risk of being killed by idiots using their mobile phones whilst driving or being in charge of a drone which can cause an airplane to crash, the latter reports are on the increase… now that is worrying. Let’s focus our attentions on the real law breakers putting us all at risk.

Looking back

During my remiscent works with my lovely elderly clients I enjoy looking back at old  black and white photos of yester-years and finding inspiration quotes by various celebrities and politicians of the time which we then discuss.

Today I came across a great quote made in 1924 by the then Director General of the BBC

‘He who prides himself on giving what he thinks the public wants is often creating a fictious demand for low standards which he will then satisfy’ John Reith

I think a lot of people in various business sectors applied and still apply this mantra…sadly so

Set the bar higher I say.

The Oesophageal Patients Association

The OPA give great support to and raise awareness of Oesophageal health issues.

Their newsletter dropped into my mailbox this morning and I am asking my friends, followers and fellow bloggers to sign their Heartburn Medication Petition. The link can be found below:-

https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/177322

The petition has been launched to apply pressure on the Government to ensure that all packets/bottles of heartburn medication carry a warning on the importance of consulting one’s GP if symptoms persist for more than three weeks.

I fully support this movement, when I cleared my Mother’s home out there wasn’t a handbag or drawer that didn’t have an indigestion remedy in it…perhaps if her symptoms had been given the attention they deserved she would not have spent her last year or so suffering the horrendous effects of cancer.

Remember: Oesophageal problems if left untreated can lead to all sorts of longer term serious health issues. Taking remedies is not the answer that just treats the symptoms not the problem, listen to your body, get a proper examination and ignore the adverts.

Please circulate the link and help this patients association make a difference.
